My name is Sam and I’m a young farmer from Nanaimo. During the school year I’m a student athlete at the University of Portland where I study Environmental Science and compete on the Varsity Rowing team. In the summer, I raise Cornish Cross Broiler Chickens starting at 3 days old, through their life on pasture, and finally through processing to be available to you for a tasty meal! I believe that healthy soil raises healthy food. By raising chicken on pasture, they get fresh grass to run and forage on daily while also fertilizing the land with their manure. By giving these chickens a healthy and happy life on pasture, we get a premium product that is delicious and ethical while promoting regeneration of the land. I am incredibly grateful to be an apprentice for Ben Glassen, of Glassen Farms, and work at The Good Place Abattoir to gain experience, skill and expand my knowledge towards building Soil Grown Farms to achieve my dream to be farming full time post secondary!
