Island Roots Market Co-operative is Nanaimo's only year-round farmers' market. Founded in 2012 after a series of community conversations about food security and local farming, Island Roots runs every Wednesday at Beban Park, bringing together farmers, artisans, and producers who make, bake, and grow their products right here on the Island. The market operates as a worker co-op, which means the people running it have a real stake in its success. Our mission is to support local food production, strengthen the local economy, encourage urban agriculture, and create jobs that pay a living wage. We acknowledge with great respect and appreciation that we operate on the unceded territories of the Snuneymuxw First Nation.
